Bolsover Drama Group secures a grant from the BBC Performing Arts Fund

Bolsover Drama Group are proud to have been chosen as a recipient of a grant of £2900 from the BBC Performing Arts Fund as part of their Young People’s Musical Theatre scheme, one of 52 theatre groups across the UK to receive grants as part of the project.

The grant will be used to enable the members of the group’s youth section, aged from eight to 18, to gain new skills and abilities as part of their forthcoming production of ‘West Side Story’, which takes place between Wednesday 29th June and Saturday 2nd July at The Bolsover School, by providing tuition for a musical theatre choreographer, dialect coaching and vocal coaching – areas of tuition which members the youth section would not usually be in a position to receive.

The grant will also be used to promote the production within the local community in order to forge stronger links and enable other young people to gain an interest in the performing arts.

On applying for the grant current members of the youth section were asked for their input, which included:  “Bolsover Drama Group is the only place like it in Bolsover.”, “Gives us more opportunities.”, “It will help boost our community.”, “We are not well known and need the publicity.”, “We will learn a different genre/type of dance.”, “Boost our confidence.”, “It will help us for the future.”, “It will help with our school life.”, “The experience will give us more inspiration for the future.” and “It will encourage everyone to join in.”

Bolsover Drama Group Chairman Mick Whitehouse said “The Bolsover Drama Group is open to all, no matter what their ability.  We challenge our young members to do the best they can and they always give us 100% commitment. This funding will ensure we can give them additional skill sets to take with them through life”.
